Position Purpose
The purpose of this role is to be responsible for the full payroll functions and have dedicated finance tasks including responsibilities for month-end processing, reconciliations and reporting. The Payroll Officer will work closely with the HR department to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Process end-to-end payroll on a fortnightly basis across for approximately 700 employees.
Interpret and apply relevant Awards with a focus on HIGA Awards.
Maintain accurate payroll records, including working hours, hourly rate, deductions leave accruals, superannuation, and tax obligations.
Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
Prepare and reconcile payroll-related reports (STP, PAYG, Superannuation, etc.).
Prepare and distribute payroll reports to management.
Prepare payroll tax report and lodgement
Prepare Workers compensation insurance annual wage declaration and annual wage estimation for renewal
Assist with year-end payroll activities
Assist with audits, compliance checks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Work collaboratively with HR and Management to ensure payroll compliance.
Stay up-to-date with changes in payroll laws and regulations.
Skills & Qualifications:
Qualification in Payroll, Business, Accounting, Finance or equivalent or equivalent relevant experience .
Proven experience in end-to-end payroll processing.
Working knowledge of modern awards, preferably hospitality
Experience using Employment Hero payroll system is advantageous.
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft office Suite, including Excel.
Strong understanding of payroll legislation, taxation, and superannuation requirements.
Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills – able to engage confidently with stakeholders.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience
Relevant experience in similar role within hospitality industry considered ideal.
3 to 5 years of experience in payroll processing.
Other
Ability to learn new tasks quickly and to work autonomously.
A team player who can interact professionally, diplomatically, and effectively with key internal and external stakeholders.
