About the role

An exciting opportunity has come up for a Graduate Environmental Health Officer to join Merri-bek City Council’s Environmental Health Unit. Reporting to the Team Leader Environmental Health, you will contribute to the safety and amenity of the municipality through administration and sensitive enforcement of Acts and Regulations and provide information, assistance, and advice to the community. You will perform duties and have responsibilities under the provisions of the Food Act 1984, Public Health & Wellbeing Act 2008, Environment Protection Act 2017, Local Government Act 2020, Tobacco Act 1987, Residential Tenancies Act 1997, and other relevant legislation. The successful applicant will build upon previous knowledge, experience, and academic training under supervision of the Team Leader Environmental Health and with support from Environmental Health Officers.

Skills and experience require to perform the role

  • Recent completion (or near completion) of a tertiary qualification in an environmental health discipline or other qualifications which satisfy the requirements of membership status of Environmental Health Professionals Australia (EHPA).
  • Demonstrated understanding of relevant legislation pertaining to the role of an Environmental Health Officer and ability to make sound judgements and apply legislation appropriately.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise work within a set timetable and in an environment of change and conflicting demands to achieve specific and set objectives.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency, including experience in Microsoft Office products.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner with people from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
