The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a skilled and passionate Senior Artisan Baker to join our team in Abbotsford. This is not just a baking role, it’s an opportunity for someone who’s ready to step up, contribute to the growth of the team, and progress into a leadership or management position.
Reporting to the Head Baker, you’ll work closely with our senior team to deliver high-quality products, support staff training, and help shape the bakery’s future direction.
Key Responsibilities
Mixing and shaping sourdough and time-dough breads
Hand moulding and finishing of a range of artisan products
Operating both rack and deck ovens with precision and care
Maintaining product quality, consistency, and attention to detail
Supporting day-to-day operations and workflow management
Training and mentoring junior team members
Contributing ideas to product development and process improvement
The Ideal Candidate Will Bring:
Strong, confident leadership skills with a proven ability to guide, support, and hold a team accountable
A genuine passion for artisan baking and a deep understanding of traditional methods
A proactive and hands-on approach with a focus on teamwork and communication
The ability to provide clear direction, give feedback, and lead by example
Experience in recipe development or a creative interest in product improvement
A desire to grow into a management role, contributing to strategy and operations
Prior experience in team leadership or staff training (highly regarded)
Shifts & Hours
This is a full-time position, working five days per week across Monday to Sunday. We aim to provide consistent days off each week, including one day off on the weekend.
Example shifts include:
Mixing Shift: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Bench/Oven Shift: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Dench Bakers have been baking artisan style bread since February 2005, when we started supplying the hospitality industry and public from our shop located in Fitzroy North. During that time we have provided a number of successful and well-known cafes and restaurants with quality hand-made sourdough and specialty breads.
