The position
As a Wharf Services Officer with Darwin Port, you will assist with general maintenance and housekeeping of all the Ports’ infrastructure, plant, equipment and grounds whilst providing a commitment to quality and safe work and environment practices.
This includes operating equipment, logistical support including forklift operations for assistance with loading and unloading of stores, luggage, waste and supply fresh water to vessels and cruise ships; provision of fencing and gangways for various vessel types to meet operational, safety and security requirements. This is a physical hands on role, which also includes grounds maintenance of mowing, whippersnipping & weed spraying at times.
This role may require attendance out of hours, including weekends and public holidays that will attract overtime payments.
Skills and experience
You will be able to effectively and safely operate specialised high risk equipment in a high risk port and/or bulk material handling and/or transport logistics' environment. You will be self-motivated and reliable, with proven ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined and multi-cultural team and/or under limited supervision.
A demonstrated understanding of Work Health & Safety principles, including safety and environmental issues in the marine environment, is a must.
The following qualifications & licences are essential;
Current NT manual drivers licence
Current NT High Risk Work Licenses - Forklift (LF) & Dogging (DG) Licences
Current Light Rigid (LR) Drivers Licence
Current Working at Heights qualification
Previous experience using mechanical tools (mowers, chainsaws, trimmers) and chemical treatments (herbicides) for weed spraying
Franna, Slewing Crane, Elevated Work Platform, Traffic Control licences are desirable
All applicants must hold or be eligible to obtain a Maritime Security Identity Card (MSIC) and will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment and will be subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Company policy.
Job benefits and perks
Ordinary Hours - Monday – Friday 37.5 hours per week
5 weeks annual leave per annum
Position is located at East Arm Wharf, Berrimah NT, but will also be required to work at Fort Hill Wharf servicing cruise ships and other vessels.
Full time, permanent role
Probation period applies
This position is located at East Arm Wharf, but will require regular travel to Fort Hill Wharf also. The successful applicant will need sufficient transport to get to and from work, as there is no public transport (buses) or bicycle access to East Arm Wharf .
