Help us to deliver cultural mentoring to First Nations students
Maximum 3 year fixed-term contract (subject to funding)
Part-time: 15 hours per week
Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours and occasional weekends (if required)
Social, Communities, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award - Social and Community Services Employee Level 4 (pay point negotiable depending on experience)

About the role
The Education Liaison Officer, Mentoring and Engagement will provide a vital role in strengthening learning and wellbeing outcomes for First Nations students in government schools, including delivering cultural mentoring to First Nations students.
This includes delivering activities aimed at:
Improving school attendance and engagement
Strengthening family engagement in education
Increasing cultural connectedness and identity
Providing transition support for students moving into primary or secondary school.
We are also seeking an Education Liaison Officer, Culture and Connection, that will work alongside this role (see separate ad).
Key responsibilities
Mentoring
Deliver one-on-one mentoring sessions to First Nations learners in government schools
Maintain a strong cultural focus that extends to advice and action on broad issues, including cultural awareness
Increase cultural connectedness and identity through mentoring and engagement with First Nations learners
Engagement
Work with families, school staff, students to facilitate the best outcomes for First Nations learners in government schools
Strengthen family engagement in education, such as participation in open days and parent-teacher interviews
Improve school attendance and engagement
Engage with Koorie Education Support Officers (KESOs) and school Health and Wellbeing Officers as required
Compliance
Comply with organisational policies and procedures, including but not limited to our child safe policies and procedures
Comply with organisational values and Code of Conduct
Comply with any other relevant policies related to the role
Other duties
May be occasionally required to supervise staff or a team
Record keeping and progress reports
Project planning and implementation
Attending all meetings with the Koorie Outcomes Division, Department of Education
Any other duties reasonably required by Nairm Marr Djambana
Key selection criteria
Relevant qualifications and/or work experience in mentoring or counselling (preferably with young First Nations people)
Passionate about culture and improving outcomes for young people
Knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, history and communities, including established relationships with local First Nations communities in Frankston and surrounding areas
Strong commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children
Strong commitment to empowering and supporting young First Nations people and voices
Ability to build and maintain strong networks and relationships with First Nations organisations, communities and people
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to effectively communicate and engage with relevant stakeholders, including students, parents, and school staff
Willingness to participate in and lead professional development activities
Well developed organisational and communication (interpersonal, written and verbal) skills
Cultural awareness and respect for cultural safety
Current Victorian Driver’s licence
The successful candidate will also be required to have a valid Working with Children Check and National Police Record Check before commencing the role.
