Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and passionate Social Worker who is ready for a new adventure. As a Senior Social Worker, you will be based in the Wagga Wagga Mental Health Recovery Unit, a 20 bed sub-acute mental health facility. The unit is primarily targeted at consumers aged 18-65 years, however, admits consumers across the age spectrum. Within this role you will be able to provide, plan and deliver comprehensive, high quality patient care within our Mental Health Recovery Unit. About the role:
We are looking for an experienced Social Worker to join us in this crucial role in the Mental Health Recovery Unit, providing recovery orientated and innovated approaches to care. You will be joining a dynamic multidisciplinary team offering a unique social work service within the 20 bed sub-acute mental health setting. You’ll also be connected to the Mental Health Allied Health team across the Inpatient Units, to provide collegial support and advice. Within the role, you will be provided direct support from both the Mental Health Allied Health Manager and the Recovery Unit Nurse Unit Manager. The unit recognise consumers with mental health issues as experts in their own condition and strives to provide an optimistic and positive approach to care with a focus on collaborative decision making and social inclusion.
As the Senior Social Worker, you will be responsible for:
Provision of a comprehensive and effective social work service in collaboration with consumers, their families and carers using a range of clinical and professional interventions
Involvement in the planning, implementation and evaluation of services and identification, development and leading of clinical practice and quality improvement activities with other staff.
Providing clinical and team leadership within the daily running of the Recovery Unit
Delivering psychoeducational group program content to mental health consumers
Provide clinical supervision and support to Level 1/2 Social Workers, Allied Health Assistants & students on clinical placement as required.
Conduct comprehensive and accurate assessments including risk assessments using Mental Health Outcome Assessment Tools and fulfil reporting and documentation requirements.

About You
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Degree in Social Work with eligibility for membership with Australian Association of Social Work (AASW)
- Extensive specialist knowledge or high-level broad generalist knowledge within the social work discipline.
- Advanced clinical knowledge, skills and experience within mental health, with an emphasis on evidence-based practice
- Ability to initiate, lead, implement and evaluate quality improvement initiatives, research and service development processes
- Willingness to work within a team, to communicate effectively with others, to address any conflict in a constructive manner.
- Experience in clinical and team leadership, including experience in staff and student supervision.
