You will be the Workplace Health & Safety and Return to Work Officer for a company that is responsible for ensuring the operational hygiene at some of the largest Food Processing facilities in the country. You will be managing the health and safety of various sites and will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all employees by implementing and maintaining safety protocols and procedures. You will also be facilitating a safe, timely and proactive return to work of employees injured in the course of their employment in accordance with the hierarchy of return-to-work goals.
This will be achieved by:
Preparing and enforcing policies to establish a strong culture of health and safety across all sites.
Conduct risk assessments of new equipment, revising risk assessments for manual amendments and completing risk assessments for new site startups.
Managing and maintaining the company’s incident & hazard reporting system.
Working autonomously, with professionalism and high attention to detail to draft work instructions for new equipment, revision and new site startups.
Supporting/assisting with the company’s return to work (RTW) program
Thoroughly investigating any incidents and accidents to determine cause and implement preventative measures.
Stay updated with relevant health and safety legislation & best practices and notify the business of any changes.
Providing injury management and RTW support to Site Managers & ensuring safety compliance at all sites.
Managing employee’s injury claims, workers compensation, return to work plans, and any associated administrative duties.
Ensure all claims are lodged, reported and followed up on in a timely manner.
Develop and maintain workers compensation files in accordance with Company RTW Procedures and confidentiality requirements
Engage occupational rehabilitation providers as required by the legislation or as practically required
Monitor and ensure return to work activities are soundly based decisions and meet legislative compliance
Monitor medical certification and update return to work plans and case management plans as appropriate
Provide assistance and advice to Managers, employees and their doctors and health professionals to achieve positive return to work outcomes.
Investigate, review and examine injury/incidents as per Company procedures to ensure the Company is adequately protected from any fraudulent behavior.
Build professional networks with clients, suppliers and associated parties.
What you will need to succeed:
A strong background in occupational health and safety practices
Knowledge of the Injury Management and current Workers Compensation legislation
Ability to handle autonomy and be a transactional leader.
Have the ability to control managerial documentation, including daily and weekly reporting, meeting minutes, and record maintenance (both internally and clients).
Have the ability to work efficiently under pressure and adhere to deadlines
Excellent verbal communication skills particularly in coordinating, educating and ability to collaborate effectively with various teams and manage conflicts or concerns.
Auditing experience is preferred but not a requirement.
Experience developing work instructions and conducting risk assessments.
Proficient in using administrative platforms including Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and more.
Ability to travel to sites across Aus as/when required.
