As our In-House Legal Counsel, you’ll work closely with senior leadership, compliance, and customer service teams to manage high-level complaints and provide legal guidance on regulatory matters. This is a fantastic opportunity for a 2nd or 3rd year lawyer looking to deepen their expertise in financial services law and make a tangible impact in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment.

Responsibilities include:

Provide legal advice on compliance with financial services regulations and credit legislation

Liaise with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies as required

Provide legal advice on compliance with financial services regulations and credit legislation

Ensure the business is compliant with the obligations of the AML/CTF Act, most notably by drafting, implementing and maintaining the AML/CTF Program

Undertaking legal research

Manage and resolve escalated and high-risk customer complaints

Undertaking detailed analysis of each external complaint

Mediation

Ensure Mortgage Ezy is conducting its business in compliance with all relevant laws while meeting its business goals

Support internal audits and risk assessments

Assist in the preparation of compliance business reports

Key Selection Criteria:

Admitted to practice law in Australia with 2–3 years post-admission experience

Fundamental knowledge of legal principles & application to Risk Management

Experience in financial services, credit law, or regulatory compliance (in-house or private practice)

Understanding of Commercial law

Strong understanding of ASIC and AFCA frameworks

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments

Detailed understanding of the relevant State & Federal legislation, including the Privacy Act, anti-money laundering and national title database legislation
