About the position Medicare Mental Health Centre Moruya is a collaboration between Grand Pacific Health, Directions Health, Katungul Aboriginal Corporation and the Family Place. We provide evidence-based assessment, care coordination, information, support and treatment to people experiencing psychological distress, their family, carers, and support networks. Medicare Mental Health Centre Moruya offers immediate, short to medium-term episodes of care and service navigation. The multi-disciplinary team facilitates a holistic and collaborative approach to care which addresses a broad range of social, physical and emotional needs. The Community Engagement Officer takes a lead role in promoting and enhancing understanding of the services offered at Medicare Mental Health Centre, Moruya as well as mental health through the coordination of community awareness activities. Together with the Service Manager, the Community Engagement Officer will represent the Centre at community forums and events as well as develop local partnerships that ensure the Centre is an integral part of the mental health and wellbeing sector. The position will also lead the Centre's approach to consumer participation. This position is full time, fixed term until 30 June 2026. Full time positions have the option for a Rostered Day Off each month. We are looking for someone with:
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, and/or extensive experience in community development, health promotion, public health, social sciences, or education.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and communicate to groups of people (including public speaking), tailoring communication to suit a specific target group or age range.
- Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of consumers with mental health and/or substance use problems.
- Understanding of the needs of diverse communities such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), and gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) communities
