About the Role
You Connect is seeking compassionate and experienced support workers to join our dedicated teams in the Newcastle Region. These roles involve working with a diverse pool of participants. You will provide tailored support in both residential and community settings in one of or across the following services:

Complex Mental Health & Disability Staff:

Provide person-centred care and support to individuals with complex mental health needs.

Effectively manage and de-escalate behaviours such as self-harm, property damage, and both verbal and physical aggression toward staff.

Implement behaviour support strategies, including crisis intervention techniques, to ensure the safety of clients and staff.

Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized support plans.

Monitor and document clients' progress accurately and in a timely manner.

Foster a safe, supportive, and structured environment that promotes positive behaviours and healthy relationships.

Stay up to date with best practices in mental health and behaviour management.

Provide varying levels of personal care from prompting, participant-led & independent action to maintain hygienic routines right through to hands on support with toileting and showering.

Experience supporting participants living with schizoaffective disorders who demonstrate behaviours and presentations such as medication resistance, drug-seeking behaviours, and high levels of verbal aggression is highly desirable.

Complex Disability Support Staff:

Provide in-home and community support to a 20-year-old male with ASD Level 3.

Assist with daily living skills, emotional regulation, and sensory-friendly activities.

Manage behavioural challenges such as various forms of aggression and emotional outbursts with a calm, patient, and person-centred approach.

Collaborate closely with the client’s family to ensure consistent and effective support.

Experience supporting participants with a reduced communication capacity who demonstrate behaviours of concern stemming from sensory processing issues such as emotional outbursts and aggression is highly desirable.

Required Qualifications

Unrestricted Driver’s Licence & Comprehensive Car Insurance

Valid First Aid & CPR Certificate

Working With Children Check (WWCC)

Clear National Police Check

NDIS Worker Screening Check (NDISWC)

Preferred Qualifications

Industry specific qualifications such as a Certificate or Diploma in Individual Support, Disability, or Mental Health

About You

Reliable, empathetic and committed to supporting vulnerable people.

Relevant industry experience and knowledge; formal qualifications in Disability, Community Services, or similar.

A comprehensive understanding of disabilities and mental health issues and the challenges individuals face.

Ability to effectively manage and deescalate heightened behaviours.

Open availability including mornings, days, afternoons and weekends. Inactive sleepover availability is highly desirable.
