Mental Health Support Worker – Dedicated Support Team (Newcastle Region)

About the Role:
We are currently recruiting a dedicated support team to provide 24/7 care for a specific participant based in the Newcastle region.
The participant is a 52-year-old man living with Schizophrenia and has recently experienced a stroke, resulting in reduced mobility and use of a wheelchair. This role will involve supporting him with daily personal care, transfers, continence care (pull-ups), and complex mental health support.
Applicants must be available for a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends and/or active awake nights. Priority will be given to those with wide availability and prior experience in mental health and/or high physical support needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide person-centred, recovery-oriented care tailored to the individual’s needs.
Support with personal care, including transfers, showering, dressing, continence care, and meal preparation.
Assist with mobility, safety in transfers, and wheelchair use.
Implement behaviour support strategies, including responding to verbal aggression and mental health-related behaviours.
Support emotional regulation, daily routines, and community participation where appropriate.
Accurately document case notes, incidents, and daily progress updates.
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team.
About You:
Proven experience supporting individuals with complex mental health conditions and/or physical disabilities.
Experience managing behaviours of concern and providing trauma-informed support.
Confidence in providing personal care and safe manual handling (including wheelchair transfers).
High level of resilience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Availability for a range of shifts including mornings, afternoons, weekends and/or active awake nights.
Essential Requirements:
Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working With Children Check.
Current Driver’s Licence and access to reliable transport.
Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in Mental Health, Disability, or Community Services (desirable).
