Curtin Medical School (CMS) is an integral part of our Faculty of Health Sciences, leading the only undergraduate medical degree in Western Australia. It is committed to producing graduates who are equipped to meet community needs, with primary care expertise, strong leadership skills and the ability to operate effectively in inter-professional care teams.

Your new role

With our program continuing to grow, we are seeking a visionary and influential Domain Lead, Clinical Practitioner to join our academic team. This exciting opportunity is available on a part-time, 0.8 FTE basis, and forms one of four curriculum domains that comprise the MBBS curriculum. It is perfect for someone passionate about shaping medical education and improving health outcomes.

As a Domain lead you will provide educational leadership and oversight of your specialty domain across all five years of the MBBS. Working with the Director of Medical Education, the Director of Medical Program, Clinical Specialist Leads, Year Coordinators and other key staff who contribute to the development of the MBBS program, you will provide expertise and ongoing review and development of curriculum objectives and content for your domain for Years 1-5.

Your leadership will help embed primary care expertise, strong leadership skills, and a collaborative, inter-professional ethos into the very heart of our medical degree.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring all outcomes are aligned with the AMC Graduate Outcome Statements and Curtin University Graduate Attributes, including working within the governance structures and processes of CMS to ensure the quality of curriculum.
  • Developing, embedding, and reviewing knowledge, skills, and attitude learning objectives in patient cases within the problem-based learning program.
  • Collaborating with Clinical Specialist Leads on a formal basis to ensure specialty disciplines are appropriately represented and integrated throughout the MBBS.
  • Liaising with Year Coordinators to ensure outcomes are resourced and scheduled in the syllabi for each year, as well as assigning the development of curriculum resources to appropriate educators.
  • Providing strategic oversight of clinical and procedural skills education.
  • Leading the implementation and integration of relevant curricular frameworks across various learning activities.
  • Contributing to assessment writing for related learning objectives, as requested by Assessment Leads, across all years.
  • Delivering teaching as required.
  • Reviewing evaluation data, including feedback from students, regarding curriculum performance and making recommendations for improvement where required.
  • Liaising with content experts relevant to your curriculum domain to ensure the syllabus is serviced and resourced by appropriate personnel.
  • Providing specific input and advice regarding the teaching and assessment of clinical competence, and personnel and resources for OSCEs and procedural credentialing.

SELECTION CRITERIA
We are looking for people with:

  • A health profession or relevant qualification (degree in medicine with APHRA highly desirable).
  • A postgraduate qualification in education (health professional education highly desirable).
  • A strong understanding of contemporary educational practice in medical education.
  • Curriculum design and development expertise and the ability to work across the delegated domains of the MBBS program.
  • A background in education and healthcare / health professional education, combining your knowledge of curriculum design with health expertise.
  • Proven high level teaching skills with a demonstrated reflective approach to teaching and learning.
  • An emerging record of peer reviewed publications (desirable).

Your career to date will reflect a strong foundation of professional expertise, complemented by demonstrated excellence in teaching and curriculum design. A deep understanding of the student learning experience - shaped by high-quality, evidence-based teaching practices - is essential to success in this role.

While this is a part-time 0.8FTE position, job sharing and flexible work/ roster arrangements may be available for the right candidate.

Role Requirements:

  1. As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered
  2. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.
