About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join the Digital Portfolio Team within the NSW Department of Communities and Justice. This is a hands-on contract opportunity to drive DevOps capability uplift, work on high-impact digital transformation projects, and support delivery teams with automation and cloud-based development environments.

You’ll work alongside a highly skilled team using cutting-edge technologies such as AWS, React/Redux, Mulesoft, SQL/NoSQL, and more.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and develop DevOps capabilities across the Digital Portfolio team
• Create and implement roadmaps for DevOps automation, CI/CD, and environment stability
• Provide production DevOps support for cloud-native and serverless systems
• Partner with delivery and commissioning teams to solve complex DevOps challenges
• Work in a dynamic, agile team focused on user-centred digital service delivery

What We're Looking ForMust-Have Experience:

• 5–8 years’ experience in DevOps or Systems Administration
• Strong production support in AWS environments (backup/recovery, monitoring, alerting)
• Deep AWS knowledge: IAM, EC2, RDS, Lambda, CloudFormation, DynamoDB, etc.
• CI/CD pipeline experience with Bamboo, AWS CodePipeline/CodeBuild/CodeDeploy
• Docker image creation and maintenance
• Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, Terraform)
• Proficient in scripting (Java, Python, Bash)
• Understanding of security best practices and DDoS mitigation
• Experience with source control systems (Git) and disaster recovery planning
• Familiarity with serverless architectures and AWS CDK

Nice to Have:

• AWS Certifications
• Formal IT qualifications or relevant technical certifications
• Experience with Troposphere, Web API development, and cost estimation for DevOps planning
