About the Role
We are currently seeking an accountant to join our administration team. This is a unique opportunity to work within the agribusiness industry and a genuine opportunity for future career development. As an accountant, your primary responsibility will be compliance-based financial reporting. You will be performing all the financial activities, also but not limited to, contributions to any ongoing projects including production and finance system integrations for Borello Beef -Midwest Beef Processors.
The successful candidate will work on a full-time basis in a permanent role.
Key responsibilities will include:
· Reconcile daily stock flows: livestock in, processing, transfers to cold storage, dispatches.
· Investigate and report on variances in yields, trimming, and cost drivers.
· Monitor operating costs against budgets and review the organization’s income and expenses to identify opportunities for improving efficiency.
· Analyze per-product profitability and waste levels.
· Contribute to the development of financial planning policies by preparing detailed production budgets (including livestock, labor, utilities, and packaging).
· Analyzing cost performance to identify and suggest areas for operational efficiency.
· Track daily cash flow relative to operations and stock holdings.
· Oversee inventory systems (e.g. Triton) ensuring accurate data entry.
· Post weekly journal entries for inventory, purchases, production-related costs.
· Prepare and present financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow) on a regular basis for boards of directors and management.
· Ensure compliance with Australian meat‑industry regulations (HACCP, food safety, animal welfare), tax laws, OHS.
· Support internal/external audits related to finance and operations.
· Provide operational insights: margin by product, cost trends, break-even analysis.
· Advise management on pricing, procurement, capital equipment, expansion projects and taxation.
· Manage end-to-end payroll operations, including calculating wages, overtime, superannuation and deductions, ensuring timely and accurate payments to employees.
· Maintain compliance with relevant financial information, tax laws, labor regulations, and internal policies.
· Maintain accurate payroll records, update employee information, and generate reports for management and statutory filings. Address employee inquiries related to compensation and benefits.
· Recommend improvements to computer-based financial systems, processes and controls.
· Match physical weights (e.g., lbs or kgs received) with system entries – flagging short/over‑weights
· Ensure invoiced dispatches align with stock movements.
· Investigate discrepancies between production volumes and financial data.
· Preparing monthly GST claims, BAS, STP reports and annual tax returns.
· Advise on identifying, assessing, and managing financial risks in capital investment projects.
· Manage and update the fixed asset register accurately.
About You
We are seeking a motivated and reliable candidate who has:
Bachelors degree in Accounting is required however higher level qualifications in the relevant field are highly desirable
Chartered Accountant (CA)/ Association of Chartered Certified Accountants(ACCA) qualification in progress or completed.
2+ years of experience in meat processing industry (or similar industry) is highly desirable
Permanent full-time working rights in Australia is required
Expert-level knowledge of Australian accounting standards and financial regulations.
Proficient in accounting software (Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks), with demonstrable ERP system experience is required.
Expertise in Microsoft Excel, Triton is highly desirable.
Knowledge Areas: Meat industry regulations (food safety, animal welfare), accounting standards, tax compliance.
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
High accuracy in financial reporting, ensuring precision and reliability.
Strong communicator, able to engage finance and non-finance colleagues and external stakeholders
