ABOUT FARE
The Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE) is a not-for-profit organisation with a vision for an Australia free from alcohol harms – where communities are healthy and well and where laws, policies and programs are fair, equitable and just.
We work collaboratively with local communities, people with lived experience of alcohol harm, values-aligned organisations, health professionals, researchers and governments across the nation to raise community awareness of alcohol harms, advocate for policy change aimed at preventing alcohol-related harms and increase accountability of companies that fuel harm.
FARE employees work flexibly from office hubs in Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide, as well as from other locations Australia-wide.
ABOUT THE ROLES
We are recruiting two positions within the Policy and Research team. The team is responsible for researching and developing effective policies and strategies to support FARE to advocate for change to laws, policies and programs to prioritise the health and wellbeing of families and communities in Australia.
A key campaign focus will be FARE's work on alcohol and gendered violence.
· The Senior Policy and Advocacy Advisor will undertake policy analysis and development, advocacy strategy development, stakeholder engagement and submission writing. They will be able to work with a level of autonomy and bring a high degree of existing policy expertise in a relevant policy area. The Advisor will undertake complex policy analysis and strategy development, develop high quality materials, and engage with a range of senior government, ministerial and peak body stakeholders.
· The Policy and Advocacy Lead will undertake policy analysis and development, advocacy strategy development, stakeholder engagement and submission writing. The Lead will have a higher degree of responsibility and leadership within the team, and requires candidates with over 5 years of policy-related experience. They will have a high degree of autonomy to mentor and guide other team members and have oversight of FARE’s advocacy strategies. The incumbent will be responsible for mapping and developing stakeholder relations, writing high quality publications, and complex policy tasks including rapid analysis of legislation.
Both roles report to the Policy and Research Director.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TEAM
Expertise in social or health policy, including knowledge of relevant legislation and government policies in subject area.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, adaptable to many stakeholder settings.
Experience in project and contract management.
Experience in data analysis and synthesis of data (Lead role).
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Professional experience in government relations, stakeholder engagement, policy and advocacy strategy development.
Academic qualifications in public policy, politics, health, epidemiology, statistics, or relevant experience.
Demonstrated capacity to manage complex projects, coordinate teams, prioritise competing demands, and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders (Lead role).
Experience in political or parliamentary work environments highly desired.
Knowledge of domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) and current approaches to evidence-based prevention and response highly desired.
Familiarity with systems-thinking or complexity-aware approaches to evaluation and strategy highly desired (Lead role).
