About the opportunity
Southern Cross University’s International Student Support and Success team is seeking an International Student Advisor to support our students throughout their studies, promoting a positive student experience and encouraging retention. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Providing comprehensive support to international students, addressing administrative, academic, and pastoral issues, as well as visa compliance concerns.
- Coordinating student support services such as travel, stipends, tutoring, and academic monitoring.
- Developing and implement programs to enhance student experience, including orientation, academic support, and crisis care.
- Monitoring student outcomes, identify at-risk students, and develop intervention strategies to support their academic success.
- Contributing to a culturally inclusive campus through events and cross-cultural initiatives.
About you
You’ll bring emotional maturity, empathy, and a strong sense of cultural awareness to your work, with the ability to support students from diverse backgrounds. You balance student support with an understanding of university policies and compliance requirements. Ideally, you will have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification and at least 2 years’ experience providing support to international tertiary students or in a multicultural, education, or social welfare context.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively across diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Proven ability to balance compassionate student support with adherence to university policies, compliance requirements, and legislative frameworks including the National Code and ESOS Act.
- Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, with excellent organisational skills and the flexibility to adapt to changing environments.
Salary and benefits

- Full-time, fixed term (12 months).
- Located at Coffs Harbour, NSW 2450.
- HEW Level 5. The base salary ranges from $80,737 - $89,717 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $104,968.
