  • Base salary range: $77,205 – $82,011 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

College Services provides academic administration and technical support services to the University’s schools, including Heads of School, academic staff and research students. The team is committed to providing effective and efficient services in support of the Schools’ and University’s strategic objectives, with a focus on continuous improvement and best practice.

Technical Services provides discipline specific, applied knowledge and skill sets to support UWA’s teaching and research goals in unison with our academic staff. This team of practitioners is focused on high performance outcomes, compliance and contributing to a pragmatic safety culture via the implementation of safe systems of work. The team operates across a broad portfolio including teaching, fieldwork support, laboratory management, instrument/equipment stewardship, research training/design/optimisation and analysis, program coordination, and workshop design, manufacture and repair.

This team supports disciplines within the Natural, Agricultural, and Social Sciences, enhancing learning and research both on campus and in the field. About the opportunity

  • As the appointee you will, under general direction, provide technical support for teaching activities across field and laboratory settings, including the opportunity to participate in field trips and regular snorkelling-based specimen collection.
  • Prepare, pack, transport, and unpack equipment and materials for field and lab use, performing manual handling tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with the upkeep and procurement of technical equipment and supplies, ensuring all resources are maintained, serviced, and compliant with UWA policies and procedures to support smooth teaching operations.

About you

  • Year 12 or equivalent, with relevant experience and a strong interest in supporting practical teaching through equipment preparation and maintenance.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks, including lifting, carrying, and handling equipment to support field and laboratory activities.
  • Experience in scientific fieldwork settings, with the ability to assist in activities such as regional fieldwork, terrestrial and snorkelling collections, remote travel and camping.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively, showing initiative, good time management, and flexibility in a dynamic teaching and research setting.

Special Requirement(s):

  • Current “C” class manual driver’s licence.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Ability to operate 4WD vehicles is desirable.
  • Some after-hours work may be required, including overnight fieldwork
