About the role
Council is seeking a Tree Management Officer to play a vital role in preserving and enhancing the unique tree canopy that defines our beautiful local government area.
As a Tree Management Officer, you will be responsible for the assessment, regulation and preservation of trees on public and private land across the Ku-ring-gai local government area.
This role plays a key part in implementing Council’s Tree Management policies, responding to customer requests, and ensuring compliance with relevant environmental legislation.
Reporting to the Coordinator Tree Management, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Administer and implement Council’s Tree Management policies and procedures
- Assess applications and undertake inspections of tree works in accordance with Council’s LEP, DCP, and AS4373-2007
- Investigate reports of unauthorised tree works, gather evidence, prepare statements, and act as an expert witness where required
- Issue tree work consents, refusals, and Penalty Infringement Notices in line with relevant legislation and Council policies
- Respond to customer enquiries and maintain accurate records
Qualifications, Skills & experience
- AQF Level 5 in Arboriculture
- TRAQ or QTRA certification (or willingness to obtain the one not held)
- Current Class C Driver Licence
- WHS White Card
- Relevant experience in arboriculture or local government tree management
- Proven ability to assess and manage tree-related matters on public and private land
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to consult and resolve conflict.
- High-level written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer literacy in MS applications, TRIM, Technology One, GIS and Customer Request systems
