Opportunity to join our Farm Team!

Have you ever considered experiencing working life on a farm?

They say the average job seeker spends just 14 seconds scanning a job ad - We can't tell you about our farm in 14 seconds - so if you have a longer attention span than that - read on.

Cheshunt Pastoral is a family farm in Meander.

We perform most of the tasks required to run our enterprise; dairy operations, herd health, breeding program, calf rearing, young stock program, winter feed production - silage, hay and fodder crops, centre pivot and hard hose irrigation, pasture renovation, winter feeding program, natural fertilzer application, fencing, stock water and the myriad of other tasks required!

We have a modern fleet of loaders, tractors (with GPS guided steering and automated systems), wagons, implements and side by side ATV's (and a 1950s grader!).

We are a young team of 8 people - with an average age in the mid 20s (20 - 31) and a couple of older hands.

We are a multigenerational business, looking to the future, utilising long term sustainable farming practices.

We recycle and use our effluent and organic material in liquid and compost form and use microbial liquid fertiliser. Our work in this area was recognised this year at the Dairy Tasmania Awards, where we received the Dairy Environmental Award.

Our major enterprise is in dairy - producing high quality milk that is used in: fresh milk, coffees, cheeses, yoghurt and hundreds of other food products.

We have a state of the art new dairy (70 bale rotary) with all sorts of tech to improve operator experience and monitor herd health and production, including soft start cups, automatic cup removers, individual milk metering and monitoring, individual feeding, audible spoken alerts, auto draft gates and more!

Our 800 odd cows have their own fitbit style devices that monitor their health, eating habits and activity levels so we can keep them happy and healthy.

We are looking for another person to join our team and are flexible with the numbers of hours and days. There are hours on offer for a full time role - or part time/casual role to suit the applicant. You can work early mornings, afternoons, weekdays/weekends - we have some flexibility to work around your availability.

Our full time standard summer roster is a three week rotation with one 3 day weekend, one 2 day weekend and one weekend working with two days off during the week. There is seasonal overtime available during the busy periods - spread throughout the year.

The role will include participating in dairy operations, herd management programs and in other aspects of the varied programs listed above, as the seasons require.

We utilise Dairy Australia training programs both online and in person courses, to up skill our team members to complement

on the job training. There are induction and introduction courses for people new to Agriculture, and Milking, Calf Rearing and Animal Husbandry courses among others each year.

There is opportunity for progression both on farm and more broadly in the dairy industry.

If you; like or would like to work in the great Tasmanian outdoors, frosty mornings, beautiful days, rainy days, (our view under the Western Tiers is pretty speccy), work with large animals, enjoy learning new skills and are prepared to have a go at a variety of practical tasks, in a positive team environment, can work effectively by yourself (once trained) and in a small team as required, don't mind getting a bit dirty, (we supply gumboots and wet weather gear), aren't too squeamish around animals doing their natural things - like calving, (when you may be the midwife) and have a practical, common sense approach to life.

If you'd like to send us your resume with references, please email to: [email protected]

We are looking to fill this position ASAP, however if you have a slightly longer time frame until you can start, touch base as we will wait for the right applicant!
