McDermott’s Coaches, a prominent player in Tasmania’s tourism and transport industry, has a rich history spanning over four decades. The company’s journey began in the 1980s when Peter and Joanne McDermott ventured into the tourism, transport, and touring sector in Tasmania.

The business started in Strahan, Peter’s hometown, operating local tours and beach safaris along Tasmania’s West Coast. Over the years, the McDermott’s passion and dedication laid the foundation for what would become one of Tasmania’s leading coach tour and charter service providers. As the years passed, McDermott’s Coaches grew both in scale and reputation. Under the management of Simon McDermott, the company has evolved into Tasmania’s largest coach tour and specialist transport service provider. Today, McDermott’s boasts a fleet of over 50 custom-built Australian vehicles, including high-comfort coaches from quality brands like Volvo, Mercedes, and MAN. Their vehicles feature spacious and comfortable Australian-built seats, large panoramic windows for passenger viewing, and innovative hybrid technology, making them pioneers in sustainable tourism transportation.

The Role - Immediate start!

School Run: Safely transport students to and from Riverside schools via Ecclestone Rd through Bridgenorth. Foster a positive and welcoming atmosphere, building strong relationships with students. Adhere to the allocated contract schedule, ensuring prompt and efficient service. Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while operating the bus. Safely load and unload students at designated stops, ensuring their well-being and maintaining order.

Yard/Depot Hand: Between school runs, there will be various tasks in and around the depot that need to be completed. This includes the cleaning of staff facilities, basic landscaping upkeep, assisting the yard manager with the cleaning of our fleet when required, running errands in Launceston (vehicle provided), and overseeing the incoming and outgoing of stock in our tyre warehouse.

Qualifications and Skills:

Valid Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Card.

Current Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) Certificate.

Valid MR/HR drivers’ licence.

Current First Aid/CPR certificate an advantage.

Forklift licence an advantage.

Previous School Bus driving experience will be favoured.

Basic math skills required – students pay with cash and may require change.

Excellent driving record and commitment to passenger safety.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Reliability and punctuality to ensure timely transportation.

Award: $50k - $60k

Hours: School Run 7.30am – 9.30am and 2.30pm – 4.30pm. Depot 9.30am – 2.30pm. 2 x 10-minute paid rest breaks, and 1 x 60-minute unpaid lunch break.
