About the role:
The Coordinator, Fabrication Operations is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and development of all workshop and fabrication facilities within Deakin's ManuFutures innovation precinct. The position ensures the safe, effective, and efficient use of advanced manufacturing resources by internal stakeholders, industry tenants, and external clients.
As a Coordinator, Fabrication Operations, you will:
- Administer, maintain and optimise workshop and fabrication facilities, including CNC machines, 3D printers, electronics benches, and general fabrication equipment.
- Coordinate the full lifecycle of fabrication requests including provision of assistance with scoping, suitability and guidance to external clients and tenants, to intake, scheduling and delivery.
- Maintain workshop OH&S compliance, machine documentation, environmental and waste management protocols, and ensure a safe working environment for all users.
- Deliver practical training and supervision for students, staff, tenants and interns on machinery use, fabrication workflows, workshop protocols and provide appropriate support for skills development and future talent pipelines.
- Administer and enhance workshop scheduling and workflow management systems, including approval and accreditation processes for equipment use.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- A Degree with substantial subsequent relevant experience; or
- Minimum 5 years of extensive experience in managing fabrication or prototyping workshops, or an equivalent combination of practical experience and relevant training.
- Experience across a range of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, 3D printing, general fabrication, and workshop safety practices.
- Experience in training others, troubleshooting equipment faults, and managing user access in high-usage workshop environments.
- Knowledge of OH&S and environmental regulations relevant to workshop operation and machinery use.
