Bendigo Foodshare is a vibrant organisation that reduces food insecurity across Central Victoria.

Bendigo Foodshare (BFS) commenced operations in 2013. It is a not-for-profit organisation, governed by a volunteer Board and staffed by more than 347 active volunteers. Our vision is every person in central Victoria has secure access to healthy food. We work towards this through a dual strategy of food relief and prevention programs that build our community’s food security.

Golden Gums Farm is a market garden where our community can learn important skills and knowledge in growing food, and we can contribute towards a strong and resilient local food system. At our site in Golden Square, we are excited to be working towards our vision of a Community Food Hub, including activating food growing spaces.

We are on the lookout for a passionate, proactive and hands-on person with experience in growing food to oversee Golden Gums Farm and the activation of food growing spaces at our new Food Hub site.

The Role:

The BFS Urban Farm Coordinator is a part time role (0.7 FTE) offered as a two-year contract. The position will work with the BFS team towards increasing access to locally sourced, healthy, culturally appropriate food, particularly for those who experience greater barriers to accessing these types of food through supporting target cohorts to grow, share and sell food.

The BFS Urban Farm Coordinator is responsible for:

1. Overseeing Golden Gums Farm as a productive market garden.

2. Contributing towards the construction and oversee the ongoing care of food growing gardens at Bendigo Foodshare’s Breen Street Food Hub.

3. The day-to-day supervision of staff, trainees and volunteers involved in these activities.

4. Leading farm and gardening workshops and volunteering experiences for school, community and corporate groups.

About You:

You will have a tertiary qualification in horticulture or considerable work experience in a comparable role. You will have experience supervising people from diverse work and lived backgrounds, particularly young people and trainees. Have experience developing and delivering community development programs with a focus on growing food and local food systems.
