Ready to take the lead on Redlands Coast’s transport future?

Are you passionate about creating sustainable, integrated, and community-centric transport solutions?

Redland City Council is seeking an experienced Principal Transport Planner to lead the implementation of the Redlands Coast Transport Strategy and champion innovative transport initiatives that reflect the evolving needs of our city.

About the Role:

As Principal Transport Planner, you will take the lead in developing and overseeing strategic transport policies and projects to improve the movement of people and goods across Redland City. You will be a key influencer in shifting transport behaviour towards more sustainable modes such as public transport, cycling, walking and ride-share while building strong partnerships with stakeholders, government agencies and the community.

This is a leadership opportunity to deliver meaningful impact in a growing and vibrant coastal region through forward-thinking planning, collaboration, and advocacy.

Guided by our Values, your responsibilities will include:

Lead and deliver Local Area Transport Plans (LATPs), integrated transport planning projects and strategic policy development.

Oversee major, multi-disciplinary transport initiatives with long-term community and organisational outcomes.

Collaborate with government agencies, neighbouring councils and transport providers to advocate for transport improvements across the region.

Provide expert guidance and strategic advice on emerging transport trends, risks, and innovations.

Effectively manage resources, budgets, and project teams to deliver high-quality outcomes on time and within scope.

Engage meaningfully with the community and stakeholders to ensure transport plans align with Redland City’s values and future needs.

What we're looking for:

Tertiary qualifications in transport planning, urban planning, or a related discipline.

Proven experience leading strategic transport planning projects within a local or regional government context.

Deep understanding of integrated, multi-modal transport planning and travel demand management.

Outstanding communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills - especially in politically sensitive environments.

Demonstrated ability to advocate effectively and deliver strategic outcomes through strong partnerships.

High-level report writing, policy development, and analytical capabilities.

About us:

Redland City Council is committed to shaping a liveable, connected and sustainable future. You’ll join a high-performing team within our City Planning and Assessment Group, contribute to vital long-term infrastructure planning, and enjoy a supportive workplace that values innovation, integrity and community engagement.
