Safety (HSEQ) Advisor – National tier 3 building and refurbishment contractor

Initial project – $35M new build shopping centre in Ipswich

Salary band - $120,000 - $150,000 (D.O.E) + Super + Travel Allowance + 25 days annual leave (starting) + mobile phone allowance of $1,200 p.a

The Company

Our client is an excellent, established mid-tier commercial building and refurbishment contractor with an annual turnover of approx. $250M across its offices nationally. With a strong focus across retail, fast food restaurants, industrial and supermarkets, they deal with ‘recognized’ blue-chip clients with 100’s of assets throughout Australia. As a business they deliver challenging ‘live-environment’ projects in addition to new-build D&C projects. In QLD they have bust projects pipeline and a growing team which represents a fantastic opportunity for safety professionals looking to join an expanding company who put professional development of its staff at its forefront.

The Role:

Due to continued success through project wins and expansion plans in QLD, this building and refurb contractor is now looking to recruit a site based Safety (HSEQ) Advisor to play a key role in ensuring the project sites are of a high safety standard. Initially based on-site in Ipswich on a new-build retail / shopping centre project in Ipswich. The project has 16 months in the programme. Following this, you’ll be placed on another project in Brisbane or across several smaller projects.

Reporting to the GM, you will perform the following duties;

Reinforcing a positive safety culture among staff and subcontractors through education, communication and a consultative approach.

Ensure the project site is of a high safety standard

Train site team and management how to conduct pre-starts, site safety inspections and toolbox talks as required.

Reviewing SWMS

Identifying hazards and risks onsite, discussing these with subcontractors and agree to control measures

Liaise and co-ordinate all high risk works compliance with Project Management.

Review & approve for site works all sub-contractor’s safety documentation.

Conduct site audits

Ensure client WHS obligations compliance.

Qualifications & Experience

Ideally a Cert IV in OH&S or alternative WHS industry relevant qualifications and certificates

3+ years' experience in a Health & Safety role on construction projects

Must have recently worked for established building and refurbishment contractors

Safety experience across live operational sites will be hugely beneficial.

Must have a strong understand of new build projects and structures.

Demonstrated practical construction related safety coordination/management experience & knowledge, delivering mid to large projects;

Collaborative communication skills consistent with effective consultation and influencing

Will have use safety software, ideally Hammertech
