Position Overview
We are seeking a results-driven Business Development Manager to lead strategic growth in the structural steel sector. This pivotal role is responsible for identifying new market opportunities, developing high-value client relationships, and driving sustainable revenue growth. Working closely with internal stakeholders, the BDM will design and execute business strategies that strengthen our market position, secure key project wins, and contribute to long-term commercial success.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Market Development & Opportunity Governance
Identify and pursue new opportunities for structural steel supply and erection
Develop targeted pursuit strategies for Tier 1 and Tier 2 construction companies, EPCMs, and principal contractors.
Lead governance processes for bids, tenders, and pre-qualification activities.
Promote alignment of structural steel capacity, capability, and delivery models with evolving client and project demands.
Revenue, Value & Growth Accountability
Drive revenue growth through the acquisition of contracts for fixed plant structures, processing facilities, conveyor systems, and other infrastructure-related works.
Lead development of pricing strategies to meet commercial objectives and achieve margin targets.
Monitor and report on project pipeline performance; adjust pursuit strategies based on win/loss outcomes.
Ensure accurate representation of capabilities and timelines in all tender submissions.
Collaborate with estimating and delivery teams to maintain a competitive balance between pricing and feasibility.
Leadership & Sales Team Enablement
Mentor junior BDMs, estimators, and proposal support staff.
Coordinate internal resources (estimating, drafting, procurement) to deliver competitive and compliant tender responses.
Promote a high-performance sales culture centered around safety, reliability, and delivery excellence.
Set and track KPIs related to sales performance, client engagement, and submission volume.
Risk, Competitor & Opportunity Management
Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across financials, safety, logistics, and project scheduling.
Monitor competitor activity, market pricing trends, and fabrication capacity across the industry supply chain.
Maintain a live opportunity register and associated risk dashboard for all active and prospective tenders.
Proactively de-risk project pursuits through early engagement with reliable subcontractors, logistics partners, and field execution teams.
Client & Stakeholder Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, EPCMs, and project decision-makers to secure repeat business and preferred supplier status.
Act as the senior escalation and negotiation lead during commercial discussions and contract finalisation.
Reporting, CRM & Strategic Insights
Maintain accurate, up-to-date project, client, and pipeline data in the company CRM system.
Prepare and deliver monthly business development reports, including revenue forecasts, tender status, and pipeline performance.
Use CRM analytics and tender feedback to refine targeting and improve future bid strategies.
Leverage market intelligence, industry events, and client feedback to inform business positioning and strategic planning.
