About the role:

The Director leads the Clinical Governance, Culture and Capability Unit within the Safety branch at Safer Care Victoria (SCV).

This unit exists to strengthen system capability through evidence-informed education, clinical governance support, consumer engagement, policy and experience-led learning. It plays a critical role in translating safety insights into action by building the knowledge, skills, structures, and cultural conditions required for safe, person-centred care across the Victorian health system.

The unit develops and delivers targeted safety education, embeds co-design and lived experience in improvement efforts, and fosters partnerships that promote trust, transparency, and continuous learning. Through this work, it supports health services to embed good governance, lead cultural change, and engage meaningfully with consumers and clinicians to deliver safer, higher quality care.

About us:

At the Victorian Department of Health we want a future where Victorians are the healthiest people in the world. A Victoria where our children and people thrive, our workplaces are productive and safe, and our communities are more connected.

We see it as our job to support Victorians to stay healthy and safe. And to deliver a world-class healthcare system that ensures every single Victorian can access safe, quality care that leads to better health outcomes for all.

About you:

  • Provide high-level, authoritative strategic advice to the Executive Director, CEO, and, where appropriate, the Minister and senior government leaders on workforce capability, clinical governance, consumer engagement, education, and experience-led system improvement across the Victorian health system.
  • Lead the Clinical Governance, Culture and Capability unit in delivering SCV's strategic and annual plan objectives, ensuring integration across its core functions: Response and Development, Clinical Governance and Capability Development.
  • Apply expertise in health system capability building, safety science, co-design, and clinical governance to design and deliver innovative, system-wide education and engagement strategies that improve care outcomes and patient experience.
  • Provide Safety Leadership by conducting risk assessments and escalating system issues and risks, to allow the appropriate level of response to be undertaken by SCV.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of evidence-based learning programs, tools, policies and frameworks that enhance system safety literacy and uplift the capability of health service boards, executives, clinicians, and staff at all levels.
  • Lead the embedding of co-design and lived experience across SCV's safety improvement initiatives, ensuring consumers, families, and clinicians contribute meaningfully to shaping policies, frameworks, and system changes.

What we offer:

  • The opportunity to perform meaningful work, making direct contributions toward enabling Victorians to be the healthiest people in the world.
  • A wide range of growth and development opportunities within the department and wider Victorian Public Service & Sector.
  • A strong commitment to work-life balance, including a diverse array of flexible working arrangements.
