About the opportunity

Working in the Menzies Institute for Medical Research (Menzies) at the University of Tasmania, the Senior Project Officer will work as part of the Prevention, Health Services and Wellbeing research theme. Menzies is one of Australia’s leading health and medical research institutes. Menzies exists to improve human health and wellbeing by performing excellent basic, clinical and population health research that focuses on the major diseases affecting the Tasmanian community. Our research is aimed at improving patient care and clinical outcomes for the community by translating knowledge into policy and practice. Research at Menzies is structured around research themes, flagships and research platforms.

As part of the Prevention, Health Services and Wellbeing research theme, the Senior Project Officer will oversee the implementation of an evaluation of the Tasmanian School Lunch Program, a government-funded program that provides nutritious cooked lunches to children at school.

What you’ll do:

  • Prepare and coordinate research-related administration, including ethics approval, governance submissions and protocols.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, particularly School Food Matters and schools.
  • Develop and implement a study participant recruitment strategy.
  • Coordinate and oversee data collection, including surveys, focus groups, interviews, and observations.
  • Analyse data, summarise findings, develop reports and support the effective dissemination of findings.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

What we’re looking for:

  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a relevant field, such as health science, nursing, medicine, or education is desirable.
  • High-level experience managing the implementation of community or school-based research projects.
  • Ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders including the funding body and all members of the school community.
  • Experience with ethics applications, writing protocols and community and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in establishing and managing data capture systems (e.g., RedCAP) and experience in analysing data and writing up findings through reports or other dissemination outputs (e.g., academic manuscripts, presentations, infographics)

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $ 116,872 comprising base salary within the range of $ 92,120 to $ 99, 891 plus 17% superannuation.
