About the business and the role:

Wonthaggi Recyclers perform the Waste Services contract for the Bass Coast Shire Council. Our fleet consists of various types of waste and heavy vehicles as well as trailers and machinery. We were awarded a new contract in September 2017 and as part of this contract we were required to purchase a new fleet. As part of the new contract we provide kerbside collection services to the residents of the Bass Coast Shire Council which consists of Organics, Recycling and Waste. We also perform Street Litter/Public Place Bin servicing, Hard Waste Collections, Bin Deliveries and Repairs as well as managing 2 Transfer Stations. Job tasks and responsibilities:

This position will require maintaining all aspects of vehicles to relevant transport legislation and standards.

Maintaining all aspects of equipment to the suppliers standard or better.

Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance services.

Perform fault diagnostics to detect mechanical and electrical faults.

Hydraulic System maintenance and repairs

Ongoing training and skill development of a 2nd year apprentice

Provide a supportive team environment focused on knowledge sharing

Test drive and/or operate equipment to ensure repair has been completed correctly.

Flexible hours.

Flexible all round duties.

Some Weekend & Public Holiday work may be required.

Maintain a professional image of the company.

Skills and experience:

This position requires a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic with knowledge of both Hydraulics and Electrical works to be performed on a fleet of vehicles and machinery that performs the Waste Services contract for the Bass Coast Shire Council.

To successfully secure this position you must have:

Mechanical Qualification

Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent trade qualification

HR Licence (HC preferable)

Knowledge of Machinery Operation (Excavators/Loaders, etc preferable.)

Effective time management skills and the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

Minimum 5 years' experience in heavy vehicle maintenance and repairs

Must have Australian citizenship or permanent residency with full working rights
