The Bequests and Major Gifts Specialist position is based in either our North Sydney, Brisbane or South Melbourne office.
About the role
Lung Foundation Australia is looking for a Bequests and Major Gifts Specialist to lead the development and growth of our major donor and bequest programs.
Reporting to the General Manager – Development, this pivotal role is responsible for developing and implementing long-term strategies to deepen engagement with major donors and bequestors. From personalised stewardship journeys to strategic campaign design, you will help inspire generosity and drive long-term donor support for people living with lung disease and lung cancer.
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategy & Relationship Management – Lead and grow our major giving and bequests programs, building long-term, trust-based relationships with key supporters.
- Estate Management - Manage estate administration for the organisation, including collaboration and communication with executors, lawyers, probate, and other beneficiaries.
- Donor Engagement & Stewardship – Design and deliver tailored stewardship experiences, including donor events, personal outreach, and bespoke communications that honour the donor journey.
- Prospect Development – Work with mid-value donors to identify future major donor prospects and manage a strong pipeline of prospective and confirmed bequestors.
- Campaigns & Collateral – Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to create on-brand materials including newsletters, website content, supporter updates and campaign collateral.
- Systems & Reporting – Ensure timely and accurate tracking of engagement using Salesforce and Ortto; analyse results to refine approaches and inform future activities.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work with internal teams to ensure donor communications and engagement activities are aligned and impactful.
About you
We are seeking a relationship-driven fundraising professional with a passion for donor stewardship. You thrive on building connections and are energised by conversations that lead to positive change.
Essential skills and attributes include:
- Tertiary qualification in fundraising, marketing, communications or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in bequest or major gifts fundraising, ideally within the not-for-profit or health sectors.
- Demonstrated ability to build and manage relationships with individuals or supporters over time.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
- Strong project and stakeholder management skills; highly organised and self-motivated.
- Proficient with CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce), email automation platforms (e.g. Ortto), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively across internal teams.
- Willingness to travel interstate as required.
