About Us?
The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
The Child and Maternal Health aim is to support parents, infants and children from preconception and early pregnancy through to middle childhood (12 years of age) to enhance family functioning and promote childhood development and parental wellbeing. The Program includes maternity care, well child services, paediatric programs and the Australian Nurse Family Partnership Program. It works closely alongside other Wellbeing and Wellness Programs (the Youth Programs; Family Wellbeing Services; Social Health) to ensure families and children have access to the full suite of wraparound care that is essential to health outcomes.
About the Role?
The purpose of this position is to lead a team of Family Partnership Workers providing a comprehensive home visiting service in partnership with the Nurse Home Visitors to women pregnant with an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander baby and their families The position is integral to the successful implementation of the AFPP. The Family Partnership worker contributes to the cultural acceptance of the program within the community and the maintenance of culturally safe visits to participating women and their families. This position supports the AFPP team on a broad range of cultural issues and liaises with clients, family and community members. The Family Partnership Worker is responsible for maintaining high level standards of community practice, foster acceptance of the AFPP model in the community and IUIH policies and guidelines.
Day to Day Duties Include:
- Manage and lead the Family Partnership Worker team to provide quality, value-added services to women in accordance with community needs
- Work alongside ANFPP Nurse Supervisor assisting with day to day activities, including logistics, performance reviews and management.
- Promote effective communication and linkages internally across the ANFPP team and externally with ANFPP stakeholders.
- Provide expert and timely advice to the ANFPP Nurse Supervisor on cultural issues impacting on program delivery
- Provides culturally safe home visits and support to women who are eligible for the ANFPP and their families.
- Works with ANFPP team members to enhance the team’s capacity to remain culturally safe in all aspects of ANFPP work
- Actively participates in Program education and acquires the knowledge and skills to implement the Program successfully and keeps up to date with information on a local, state or national level that may impact delivery of Program content.

- Demonstrate a high level of professional integrity with regard to client privacy and confidentiality, ethics and creating a culturally safe environment for the delivery of the Program
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Current Criminal History Check
- Current Blue Card
- Current Disability Workers Screening Check (Yellow Card)
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care / Community Services / Education or other relevant field
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
