Your new company

A well-known local council is seeking an experienced Financial Modeller to support the Council's budget targets, long-term financial forecasts, and specialised modelling needs on an initial 3-month assignment with the potential to extend and go permanent the right person.

Your new role

• Build and maintain financial models to inform strategic development and decision-making.
• Coordinate and provide high-level support in the maintenance of the organisation-wide Long Term Financial Forecast.
• Responsibility for the development, maintenance and coordination of the Council's water pricing modelling in accordance with the requirements of the financial strategy and annual budget development process.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, build models in response to requests from business owners, Executive Leadership Team and Council to better understand and manage resources
• In alignment with the council's accounting policies, budget requirements, and the Australian Accounting Standards and Interpretations, they coordinate the calculations, reconciliations, and disclosures related to financial models, including provisions and contingent liabilities.
• Support the Financial Planning Unit's Corporate Accountant in managing their portfolio, including setting and implementing goals, objectives, policies, and procedures aligned with corporate strategies. Additionally, oversee peer reviews, learning and development, staff administration, workforce succession planning, and performance management to optimise productivity and create a positive workplace environment.

What you'll need to succeed

• Highly skilled Financial Modeller, with experience in financial modelling, budgeting and long-term forecasting
• Proactive and quick to adapt, able to hit the ground running and thrive in fast-paced environments.
• Known for delivering high-quality financial insights with precision and clarity, even when dealing with complex data.
• Strong ability to translate technical financial models into plain language for non-financial stakeholders.
• Advanced Excel capabilities, including complex formulas, scenario modelling, and VBA (preferred).
• Previous experience using Technology One or a similar ERP system
• Exceptional attention to detail and a sharp analytical mindset.
• Collaborative leadership style with a focus on coaching and building capability in others.
• Proven experience managing staff and fostering positive team dynamics.
• Skilled in using financial and asset management systems to support strategic planning.
• Able to leverage data-driven insights to inform financial decision-making.
