The Team:

The NESMH Allied Health Assistant (AHA) provides support to the Allied Health Professionals (AHP) by assisting with therapy and program-related tasks, and work under their direction and delegation. They work with patients and clients to implement treatment plans, coordinate care, and manage administrative duties related to patient care. In this role, the AHA will work in the NESM Scottsdale hospital and support both inpatients and outpatients.

Hospital Background:

The North Eastern Soldiers Memorial Hospital (NESMH) Scottsdale is the largest rural hospital in Tasmania, and a Tier 1 facility with a catchment area of 3,196km², a population of just over 6,600 people. The NESMH has 18 acute beds, 3 bed emergency department, community nursing services plus a range of community health services including physiotherapy and social worker. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

The Role:

  1. Assist AHP’s with information gathering from a variety of sources including screening checklists and file notes.
  2. Assist AHP’s and other Allied Health Assistants with preparation for, and prescribed interventions for clients, including supporting clients to and from treatment areas when required.
  3. Prepare, maintain and clean the therapeutic environment including but not limited to, construction, repair and delivery of therapeutic equipment/devices and loan stocks, ensuring optimal physical condition is always maintained, including reporting any change in condition or low stock levels to the delegating AHP.
  4. Implement the prescribed interventions for clients, document and report client progress and outcomes to the delegating AHP.
  5. Provide clinical administration support, as required, and use computer based clinical applications.
  6. Participate and contribute to unit- and site-based meetings, special projects, ongoing education, performance development assessments, and orientation of new assistant staff as required.
  7. Maintain daily statistical records, and records of other audited tasks.
  8. Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, including in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives, safeguarding practices for vulnerable people, and related training.
  9. The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate skills and competencies for an allied health assistant within a hospital or community health setting.
  • Ability to exercise responsible judgement, flexibility and adhere to safe working practices and follow policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to establish rapport with a wide range of people, including team members and patients.
  • Demonstrated information technology literacy including the ability to use office equipment and software such as word processing and database applications, or the ability to acquire.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to organise daily workload

Details of appointment:

Permanent, part time, day worker position, working 38 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as you can join our team.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $67,193 to $72,126 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.

Eligibility:

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Health Service Assistance (Allied Health Assistance) or equivalent qualification
  • Tertiary student of a relevant and approved allied health course of study at a recognised tertiary institution
