Position details

  • Senior Education Officer, Grade 2 (SEO 2)
  • Full time, temporary up to 12 months (with potential for extension or conversion to ongoing)
  • Close to Wynyard station & hybrid work arrangements available\

About the role

The Curriculum Officer, Aboriginal Education is responsible for providing Aboriginal Education expertise and advice to support the curriculum reform process. As part of the Aboriginal Education Directorate, the role requires working collaboratively with Subject Matter Officers and curriculum writers in the development of syllabuses and support material, in accordance with NESA policies and strategic activities, and Curriculum Division planning and priorities.

On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for:

  • Providing high level advice and expertise regarding Aboriginal Education as it relates to the curriculum reform process.
  • Managing the Aboriginal Education Directorate curriculum and assessment projects across a range of Key Learning Areas.
  • Establishing, managing and supervising curriculum and assessment writers and writing teams.
  • Monitoring timelines and resource use in relation to Directorate and Division project plans.
  • Provides Aboriginal Education advice and expertise to stakeholders to support curriculum and assessment implementation in NSW schools.
  • Maintaining effective relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, NESA Standing Committees and educational and cultural agencies.
  • Contributing to the development of support materials for a range of syllabus areas.

Essential Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualified in education or hold equivalent experience, with contemporary knowledge of current and emerging trends and issues relating to Aboriginal Education.
  • Aboriginality. Aboriginality is a genuine qualification and authorised in terms of Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Applicants must confirm their Aboriginality through written documentation in addition to addressing other essential requirements, the capabilities and focus questions in their application.
  • The successful candidate will have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills and take a consultative approach to their work.
