The Role
The Electromagnetic Warfare and Intelligence Systems Maritime Systems Program Office (EWIS-Maritime SPO) is seeking a professional, motivated APS 5 Personnel Security Officer to join the team in Russell, ACT. As the APS 5 Personnel Security Officer, operating in a secure environment, you will be a part of the business unit that provides effective unit security support to EWIS-Maritime SPO. Under limited direction you will engage with stakeholders, investigate, report, develop, evaluate, support policies, processes, procedures, practice and manage resources specific to assurance and data specifications supporting Defence capability.
As a Personnel Security Officer, you will be relied upon to provide security assistance and advice, and conduct security briefs to all members of the EWIS-Maritime SPO. You will have good stakeholder engagement skills, collaborating with the team to ensure complex projects and security requirements within EWIS-Maritime SPO are completed. You are required to comply with legislative frameworks through effective decision making, applying your security skills related to legislative frameworks and policy requirements.
You will possess excellent time management skills and be an effective communicator. You are a self-starter, providing subject matter expertise in the Defence Security environment, ensuring your team and manager are kept current on vital information. As part of the EWIS-Maritime SPO Security Team, you will be responsible for managing key stakeholder relationships and promoting a positive security culture and environment within the EWIS-Maritime SPO.
Your role encompasses a range of variable activities, which include:
- Undertake roles associated with the Personnel Security Officer position including management and security of SPO assets.
- Conducting audit and assurance activities to ensure security posterity is maintained by all personnel handling classified assets and materials.
- Management of Security Incidents.
- Support the development and delivery of security awareness training and briefs.
- Coordinate and respond to EWIS Branch security enquiries and taskings.
- Provide backup on-call security responder for EWIS-Maritime SPO within the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) when required.
- Provide support to Senior Security Advisors in delivering security services to EWIS-Maritime SPO.
The right person for this role will show the flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of the Defence environment to achieve business outcomes. This role is based in a highly secure office environment.

EWIS-Maritime SPO is widely dispersed across Australia with this position based at Russell, ACT. The successful applicant will participate in an integrated team, including APS, military and contracted staff, to ensure the supported Electronic Warfare capabilities are delivered to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and supported in accordance with operational and compliance requirements, budgets and service agreements. Our Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate:
- Knowledge of and ability to provide security incident management responses, that is in accordance with the Defence Security Policy Framework (DSPF).
- Experience in the unit security environment, with the ability to development plans and processes to enhance the achievement of business outcomes.
- Strong organisational skills, self-drive and initiative with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability influence and negotiate with stakeholders at various levels.
- The ability to set work priorities, manage workflows, build and sustain productive and collaborative relationships, ensuring your team remains informed.
- The ability to respond flexibly to changing situations, including using sound judgement under pressure with the ability to prioritise work to ensure the success of key deliverables.
- Be willing to act as a back-up on-call responder for EWIS-Maritime within the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) if required.
