About the role

We are looking for a Building Assistant to join the Health and Building Services team on a part-time, one year fixed-term basis (up to 50 hours per fortnight). In this role, you will be responsible for assessing building applications and R Code variations, as directed by the Coordinator of Building Services, while also liaising with both internal and external stakeholders

The Building Assistant is required to promote a high level of health, safety and amenity within the community and the build environment and participate in the implementation of the business unit plan.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Providing general advice and information to internal and external customers in a timely and customer focused manner via telephone or in person to a wide range of customers.
  • Check and assess new building applications for lodgement, ensuring all documentation is complete and correct.
  • Process Certified Applications for Class 10 building or Incidental structures.
  • Assess building applications for compliance with the Residential Design Codes, Details Area Plans and Residential Medium Density Provisions.
  • Write reports and correspondence in a timely customer focussed manner.

About you

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Demonstrated skills in working with and knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Sound customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication
  • Team oriented and ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to interpret building legislation (Desirable)
  • Background in, or knowledge of the building approval process
  • “C” Class drivers’ licence
  • A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required.

The salary for this position will be from $72,362.16 - $87,036.08 per annum pro rata, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
