This position is a key member of the Business Services department, and the wider TSO, and provides accurate, timely payroll and accounting services. Prior experience in payroll and accounts is required, as are strong organisational skills and a positive and solutions-oriented mindset – this role would suit a finance professional who wishes to apply their knowledge and skills to a creative, not-for-profit cultural organisation. CPA status (or equivalent) will be strongly regarded; whether already completed or currently underway – TSO welcomes the opportunity to support those currently studying via the provision of study leave. Duties and Responsibilities
Payroll | Prepare and process TSOs fortnightly payroll (approximately 75-100 employees) including:
Maintain employee masterfiles in Access MicroPay
Understand and apply relevant Enterprise Agreement conditions
Seek, interpret, and process employee timesheets and process fortnightly payroll
Prepare payment authorities
Prepare and calculate leave liabilities
Prepare and submit superannuation returns through Media Super
Pay relevant end-of month deductions
Prepare statistical reporting
Undertake year-end processing
Remain up to date with relevant legislative updates and requirements
Act as a knowledgeable point of contact for TSO employees regarding payroll matters or queries
Accounts | Process Accounts Payable and associated tasks including:
Liaison with staff on classification of expenditure and ensuring all invoices are verified, authorised, and costed appropriately
Process and pay all invoices
Process monthly credit card transactions
Complete bank reconciliations
Enter journals as required
Maintain and process prepayments workbooks
Reporting | Assist the Director Business Services with tasks including:
Preparation of monthly and annual financial reporting
Preparation of annual FBT Return
Preparation of Creative Australia reporting and acquittals
Prepare balance sheet reconciliations
Other tasks as required and in alignment with skillset
The Business Services team consists of the Director Business Services, the Business Services Manager, and some additional support via a casual Accounts assistant. The Business Services team has a strong track record of developing team members for future career progression via an investment in professional development, mentoring, and additional learning where there is appetite and capacity. Selection Criteria
Essential Skills and Experience
Appropriate tertiary qualifications, or significant relevant work experience in finance
General financial and accounting experience, including an understanding of accounting principles
Previous hands-on experience managing payroll
Working knowledge of Australian payroll and finance regulatory requirements
Sound computer literacy with the MS office suite and accounting systems (knowledge of Access Micropay and SAP Business desirable)
Proven team player with the ability to work flexibly within a small team environment
Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy
Ability to work and communicate effectively with a variety of staff members and musicians in a creative environment, including those with limited knowledge of payroll or finance
Calm, positive personal demeanor when undertaking tasks or solving problems
Desirable qualifications and experience
CPA (or equivalent status), either completed or underway
Understanding of the not-for-profit and / or arts sector
Appetite to learn and increase professional skills and capabilities over the course of TSO career, including to act as a business partner to key senior leaders regarding the management of their financial responsibilities
