Role Overview

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Social Worker to join our frontline team in Brisbane. This role is focused on delivering high-impact, trauma-informed support services to veterans and their families. You will work both independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver client assessments, care planning, counselling, and coordinated support—alongside key contributions to our Legacy Learning initiative.

Key Responsibilities

Client Assessment and Support

Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments of veterans’ needs, strengths, and goals.

Develop, implement, and monitor individualised care plans.

Provide counselling and emotional support to veterans and their families.

Vocational Support Work

Conduct vocational assessments to identify clients’ transferable skills, career interests, and employment readiness.

Support clients to explore and engage in meaningful employment, training, and education pathways tailored to their goals and capacity.

Assist with resume preparation, job applications, interview techniques, and onboarding where needed.

Collaborate with employers, training providers (RTOs), TAFE/universities, and employment services to create sustainable vocational opportunities for veterans.

Advocate for workplace accommodations and support veterans in navigating return-to-work plans following injury, illness, or psychological distress.

Monitor and review vocational goals as part of a broader care plan to ensure integrated support across employment, health, and wellbeing.

Health and Wellbeing

Facilitate access to mental, physical, and psychosocial support services.

Coordinate with healthcare providers to ensure integrated care delivery.

Support client education on health management and wellbeing strategies.

Compliance and Reporting

Maintain accurate and confidential case notes in line with organisational and legislative requirements.

Assist with program evaluation, data collection, and reporting.

Advocacy and Networking

Advocate for the rights and access to services for veterans and their families.

Represent Salute For Service at outreach and community engagement events.

Build and maintain professional relationships with government, NGOs, and local service providers.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

Degree-qualified Social Worker, eligible for AASW membership.

Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification experience in a social work or case management role.

Strong knowledge of mental health, physical wellbeing, and psychosocial challenges affecting veterans and their families.

Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.

Ability to work autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

Experience working with or within the Defence or veteran support sectors.

Knowledge of VCES, MRCAETS, and educational access pathways for dependents.

Community-based or education-focused social work experience.
