About Somerville Community Services

Somerville is a for-purpose, community-based organisation that has supported Territorians for over 50 years. We specialise in high-quality disability services that empower people to live the life they choose. As a registered NDIS provider, we deliver individualised support across the Northern Territory, with a focus on respectful, person-centred relationships that promote choice, dignity, and independence.

About the role

We’re looking for an organised, proactive, and detail-oriented HR Officer to join our friendly HR team in Darwin. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to build their HR career in a supportive environment, working across a broad range of HR functions.

Reporting to the HR Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in ensuring smooth HR operations, accurate records, and a great employee experience. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys both administrative work and engaging with people, and who wants to contribute to meaningful services in the community sector.

What you’ll be doing

As a HR Officer at Somerville, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing HR documents and managing employee records accurately and confidentially
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding activities, ensuring all processes are completed accurately and in line with organisational procedures
  • Managing the HR inbox and responding to routine HR enquiries
  • Conducting compliance checks and regular audits of employee records
  • Generating routine HR reports and helping identify trends or issues
  • Providing general administrative support across HR operations and assisting the team to ensure effective and efficient service delivery
  • Contributing to HR projects, process improvements, and engagement initiatives
  • Actively participating in professional development to grow your HR knowledge and skills

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who’s enthusiastic, adaptable, and committed to delivering high-quality HR support. Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Experience in HR support or administration, including records management, HR documentation, and recruitment/onboarding support
  • Knowledge of HR processes, compliance requirements, and data integrity
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively across teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and HR systems (ELMO experience a bonus!)
  • A commitment to confidentiality and a positive, team-focused approach
  • Experience in the not-for-profit, community services, or disability sectors will be highly regarded

You’ll also need to hold (or be eligible to obtain):

  • A current Ochre Card
  • National Criminal History Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
  • First Aid and CPR certificate
  • COVID-19 and Influenza vaccinations
  • Australian work rights
  • NT Driver Licence

Why work with us

At Somerville, you’ll join a team that values your contribution and supports your professional growth. We offer:

  • Five weeks of annual leave
  • Salary packaging – receive up to $15,900 of your salary tax-free
  • Paid parental leave
  • Free onsite car parking
  • Regular supervision and focus on employee wellbeing
  • Access to ongoing training and professional development
  • A friendly and collaborative work culture
  • Free, confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
