About the role:
Join our dynamic team at Curtin School of Population Health as a Sexology Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, where you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional learning and teaching experiences within our Sexology courses that sit within the Discipline of Health Promotion and Sexology. This is a full-time, continuing, permanent opportunity. We are also open to considering part-time job-share arrangements for suitable candidates.
We are seeking an innovative educator who is not only committed to enhancing student engagement but also adept at integrating research, scholarship, and professional practice into their teaching. Your contributions will foster a rich academic environment, promoting curiosity and critical thinking among students. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong and evolving profile in teaching, alongside a commitment to service and leadership within the academic community.
You will have the opportunity to lead or coordinate the efforts of fellow staff members, driving collaborative initiatives that enhance the educational experience. A deep knowledge of your subject area, coupled with a passion for teaching and innovation, is essential for this role as you inspire and guide the next generation of professionals in your field.
Your responsibilities will include:
Teaching
- Deliver high-quality instruction to undergraduate and postgraduate students, including tutorials, workshops, and field sessions.
- Assess student work, contribute to curriculum design, and act as unit coordinator.
- Engage in ongoing improvement in teaching methods and supervise student research programs.
Research
- Conduct competitive and high-quality research, developing a coherent research program and seeking funding as a co or chief investigator.
- Share findings through publications, seminars, and conferences while providing effective supervision to research students.
- Aim for national recognition in your research field and manage related administrative tasks.
Selection Criteria – Who we are looking for:
- A doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline, with demonstrated high-level teaching skills and a reflective approach to teaching delivery.
- A strong understanding of pedagogical theory, contemporary educational practices, and a record of scholarship in teaching, including unit/course coordination.
- Established research outputs in high-quality academic journals, a history of successful competitive grant applications, and evidence of a growing national and international profile.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor less experienced staff, supervise HDR students, and lead major curriculum or research initiatives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to fostering a collegial environment and interacting with students and staff with cross-cultural sensitivity.
- Commitment to applying relevant policies and procedures in daily responsibilities.
Desirable
- Professional expertise in one or more of the following areas: sexually transmissible infections and blood-borne viruses (STI/BBVs), working with LGBTIQA+ communities, and/or gender diversity.
Role Requirements:
- As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
