NYFL is committed to empowering the Ieramugadu (Roebourne) community through programs that promote Excellence, Togetherness, Culture, Leadership, and Integrity. Our Education Engagement and Attainment Initiatives (EEAI) are central to improving school participation and long-term wellbeing for First Nations youth.
We are seeking dedicated and community-connected Mentors (both male and female identified positions) to support First Nations students and their families in engaging with education. Mentors act as cultural role models, provide encouragement, and help remove barriers to school attendance and achievement.
Key Responsibilities
· Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and schools.
· Support daily school transport, ensuring students are safely picked up and dropped off.
· Provide mentoring and guidance to students, promoting attendance, wellbeing, and cultural pride.
· Assist in the delivery of cultural, sporting, and educational programs.
· Work with families to identify and address barriers to school attendance.
· Link families with essential services such as Centrelink, medical care, housing, and other support networks.
· Participate in community consultation and feedback sessions.
· Maintain records and contribute to reporting as required.
Desirable Experience
· Experience working in a remote or Aboriginal community setting.
· Experience supporting children, youth, or families in educational or community programs.
Selection Criteria
· Identified position – Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants only.
· Strong connection to the local community and culture.
· Experience working with children, youth, or families.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work flexible hours, including during school holidays.
· Current Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance.
· Valid driver’s licence.
