About APCO

The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) is Australia’s co-regulator for packaging. We are a purpose-driven, member-based organisation working at the forefront of sustainability, circular economy design, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging. Our small but highly engaged team is focused on delivering meaningful environmental outcomes through practical, industry-supported change. We value professionalism, collaboration, and systems thinking, and we are looking for a motivated and reliable People & Culture Coordinator to support our internal capability as we grow.

The Role

This is a hands-on and people-focused role for someone who wants to make things work better, not just follow process, but shape it.

As our People & Culture Coordinator, you’ll be a key part of how we attract, welcome, and support our team. You’ll take the lead on recruitment coordination, posting ads, liaising with candidates, preparing contracts, and keeping things moving behind the scenes. You’ll help ensure every onboarding experience is smooth, well-organised, and aligned with APCO’s values.

You’ll also support the People & Culture Manager across the employee lifecycle, maintaining up-to-date records, keeping workflows and documentation in order, and helping deliver internal initiatives like performance reviews, policy updates, and staff awards. This is a role where your care, follow-through, and ability to adapt to what’s needed day to day will make a real difference.

Whether you’re just starting out or have solid experience and want more flexibility, this role offers a great opportunity to grow and contribute.

You’ll Succeed in This Role If You:

  • Are energised by making a difference and want your work to have impact
  • Enjoy bringing structure to busy environments but know when to pivot based on real-time needs
  • Have experience in administration, coordination, or HR support, and are confident working across recruitment and people processes
  • Communicate clearly, respectfully, and with a people-first mindset
  • Can be trusted to work with discretion, handle confidential information, and follow through on what you start
  • Thrive in a values-driven team and want to be part of an organisation where culture, flexibility, and inclusion are more than just words
  • May not have fit into a rigid corporate environment — and are now looking for a place where being thoughtful, adaptable, and human is a strengt

Key Focus Areas

  • Support recruitment and onboarding coordination, including scheduling, documentation, and candidate communications
  • Maintain Employment Hero records and ensure data, templates, and files are accurate and up to date
  • Track probation, performance, and policy processes, supporting leaders with reminders and documentation
  • Coordinate staff awards, Town Hall logistics, and internal engagement initiatives
  • Help improve consistency and efficiency across people-related templates, systems, and processes

Relevant Experience and Qualifications

  • We’re open to different backgrounds, but you’ll likely bring some combination of the following:
  • Experience in HR coordination, administration, recruitment support, or people operations (approx. 1–3 years)
  • Exposure to recruitment processes, onboarding, or HR systems — ideally in a fast-paced or service-oriented environment
  • Confidence working with platforms such as Employment Hero, SharePoint, and Microsoft 365 (or a willingness to learn quickly)
  • A relevant qualification or working towards one, such as Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology or a related discipline
  • Bonus: Experience in a small HR team, or supporting people processes in a not-for-profit, member-based, or values-driven organisation
