About us:

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is a vital part of Queensland's justice system, representing the State in prosecuting criminal matters across courts such as the High Court of Australia, Supreme Court, District Court, and more. Our work addresses complex and sensitive legal matters, ensuring justice is upheld with professionalism and integrity.

About your role:

We are offering a temporary, flexible, full-time position until 31 December 2026, with the potential for extension. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to workplace psychosocial safety and victim support within the ODPP.

What This Role Offers

• Lead and manage the ODPP's approach to Workplace Psychosocial Safety, including regular review and maintenance of the organisation's psychosocial risk profile. Establish and support a Mental Health First Aid Officer Community of Practice to strengthen workplace mental health initiatives.
• Develop, implement, and oversee innovative strategies and initiatives, ensuring the ODPP meets its obligations under health and safety legislation, particularly the Psychosocial Safety in the Workplace Code of Practice.
• Serve as a key advisor, offering guidance to staff on managing risks, hazards, and incidents that arise during day-to-day service delivery.
• Support the ODPP's service delivery standards in line with the Charter of Victims' Rights by providing expert advice on social welfare and psychological support.
• Collaborate with the Victim Liaison Service to maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and emerging community support services, ensuring timely and appropriate referrals for victim assistance.
• Provide advice and practical strategies to Victim Liaison Officers and prosecutorial staff on engaging with traumatised victims of crime, enhancing communication practices to better meet victims' needs.
• Monitor, evaluate, and refine new and ongoing strategies while maintaining accurate records and data.
• Provide regular insights and progress reports to the Executive Manager for continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience in delivering support services such as counselling, education, social welfare, or psychology, with a preference for experience in workplace psychosocial safety.
• A thorough understanding of the interaction between victims of personal violence and the criminal justice system, with demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively liaise, consult, and collaborate with staff and external stakeholders.
• Advanced analytical skills to evaluate complex issues and deliver evidence-based reports and recommendations that drive change and practice improvement.
• Strong leadership abilities, including the capability to mentor, motivate, and build the capacity of team members.
• A commitment to professional and ethical standards, with a demonstrated understanding of diversity, inclusion, and cultural capability, particularly in a frontline, client-focused environment.

Mandatory requirements

Applicants must have a tertiary qualification in psychology or equivalent social science degree. Professional registration would be viewed as beneficial.
