About Us:

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is a vital part of Queensland's justice system, representing the State in prosecuting criminal matters across courts such as the High Court of Australia, Supreme Court, District Court, and more. Our work addresses complex and sensitive legal matters, ensuring justice is upheld with professionalism and integrity.

Your Opportunity Awaits:

Step into a 6-month temporary, flexible full-time role (with the possibility of extension) and make a tangible impact as a Senior Legal Officer (PO4). This isn't just a job; it's a chance to challenge yourself, lead critical cases, and contribute to a system that changes lives.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing prosecution cases on complex matters, including appeals, with professionalism and timeliness.
• Collaborating and managing relationships with stakeholders such as defence counsel, solicitors, police, victims, and witnesses to maintain clear, respectful communication.
• Advocating in court for appeals, sentences, committal hearings, and bail applications across the Magistrates, District, or higher courts.
• Engaging with complainants and relatives, particularly in cases involving sexual or violent offences, with sensitivity and compassion.
• Leading and mentoring legal officers and support staff, inspiring high standards and professional growth.
• Identifying opportunities to improve work practices and streamline processes.

What We're Looking For:

We're after a motivated, skilled legal professional who thrives in high-pressure environments and is driven by a desire for excellence. The ideal candidate brings:

• Expertise in applying legal principles, drafting documents, providing advice, and acting as a court advocate with confidence and professionalism.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to navigate the complexities of multi-stakeholder environments.
• A proven track record of mentoring, training, and supporting legal teams to achieve outstanding results.
• A trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach when supporting victims of crime.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards of ethics and competency in all aspects of their work.

Mandatory Requirements:

Admission as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia (please provide your admission date).

Why Join Us?

This is more than a role; it's your opportunity to engage with some of the state's most pressing legal matters while making a genuine difference in the community. Think you're ready for the challenge?
