The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) is an independent shared admissions service facilitating access to tertiary education and further study opportunities and pathways for learners in Victoria and beyond. VTAC supports young people, professionals, and learners of any age and at any stage of life to connect with further study to achieve their learning aspirations, professional growth, and dream careers.

VTAC conducts the annual scaling of VCE results and the calculation of the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank), arrangements for International Baccalaureate and interstate students.

The IT Services department focuses on the maintenance and continuous improvement of infrastructure and systems, supporting applicant and institution service delivery.

About the role

The Cloud Engineer is responsible for the planning, delivery and performance of large-scale, complex hardware and software programs and related improvements in support of strategic business priorities. This includes managing and planning installation and de-installation projects; conducting tests of hardware and/or software; carrying out system software maintenance tasks/routines; incident and problem resolution; implementing changes and managing change processes; managing and implementing security administration processes; reviewing and implementing system software updates and capacity modelling and forecasting. Critical to the success of the role is the ability to engage and influence senior level stakeholders, coordinating the planning for change and improvements to ensure the optimal delivery of system benefits aligned with user needs.

The Cloud Engineer is also responsible for providing expert advice as a mentor and escalation point and building capability by adopting and promoting best practice, policies and standards in relation to ICT infrastructure management within the ITS Portfolio.

Knowledge and Skills

Substantial experience in the planning, development and implementation of complex ICT infrastructure, coupled with a proven ability to build organisational capability in ICT management and security.

Advanced experience of server (Windows, Linux) networking, cloud (both AWS and Azure) essential.

Experience in integrating and consuming Azure platform services across components using Pipelines, Dataverse and Power Apps Flows.

Experience in Dynamics 365 and Power Applications security best practices desirable

Experience in Azure DevOps server setup, Azure Boards, Azure Pipelines, Azure Repos and Artifacts Background in DevOps and automation frameworks across delivery life cycle (deployment, infrastructure, testing)

Highly-developed planning and organisational skills, with experience establishing priorities and meeting deadlines in a large, complex organisation.

Excellent relationship management and consulting skills including the ability to engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, influence and negotiate at the highest levels.

Highly-developed analytical and conceptual skills including demonstrated ability to conceptualise, develop and translate complex business issues into innovative, workable solutions.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to provide authoritative advice and effectively translate and present complex concepts and information.
