Lead Mechanical Engineer - Mineral Processing Projects (Gold, Copper, Nickel, Iron Ore)
We are currently partnering with a leading engineering consultancy to appoint a Lead Mechanical Engineer for a permanent position based in Ascot, Perth. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing team delivering multi-disciplinary projects across gold, copper, nickel and iron ore operations.
You'll lead design and execution for greenfield and brownfield projects and play a pivotal role in ensuring technical excellence, constructability, and operational performance in mineral processing plant design.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate mechanical design activities across a multidisciplinary team
- Deliver design outputs to meet budget and schedule targets
- Guide layout development and conceptual design with lead designers
- Perform detailed engineering calculations and equipment sizing (e.g. conveyors, pumps)
- Review mechanical drawings, data sheets, scopes, vendor documentation and tender evaluations
- Manage internal and client-facing design reviews and ensure alignment on outcomes
- Ensure designs comply with Australian regulations and company standards
- Support site commissioning teams on a 3:1 FIFO roster as required (includes 40% site uplift - including R&R)
Your Background
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Engineers Australia recognised)
- 10+ years' experience in mechanical design, construction, and commissioning of mineral processing plants
- Strong understanding of wet and dry plant design, and EPC/EPCM delivery models
- Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and mentor junior engineers
- Proficient in engineering software (Excel, Word, 3D model viewing tools)
- Excellent knowledge of Australian design standards and mechanical engineering principles
- Clear communicator with strong planning and organisational skills
