The Role
We're looking for a strategic and hands-on Data & Analytics Technical Lead to drive the design and implementation of Yarra Valley Waters next-generation data platform. In this pivotal role, you'll lead enterprise-wide data transformation initiative from legacy systems to modern, cloud-native solutions.

You'll deliver automated, scalable, high-performance data systems that power analytics, operational reporting, and intelligent decision-making. Working closely with the Head of Data & Analytics, engineers, analysts, architects, vendors, and key business leaders, you'll help shape our enterprise data architecture and drive the adoption of reusable data products and automation across the data lifecycle.

This is a senior technical leadership role ideal for someone with strong expertise in cloud platforms, data modelling, automation, and strategic program delivery.

Your key responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end delivery of data platform transformation projects on Azure and Databricks, with strong emphasis on automation and scalability.
• Architect, develop, and optimise data pipelines, data lakehouse architectures, and reusable data products.
• Design and implement enterprise-grade data models and semantic layers to support analytics, reporting, and ML workloads.
• Automate ingestion, transformation, testing, and deployment of data assets using DevOps and CI/CD principles.
• Establish and enforce governance, quality, and security practices across the data platform.

What we're looking for

• 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, business intelligence, or analytics leadership roles.
• Proven success leading complex data transformation and automation projects in large or regulated environments.
• Expertise in Databricks (including Spark and Delta Lake) and strong understanding of scalable data pipelines.
• Deep hands-on experience with the Microsoft Azure data platform - including Azure Data Lake, Data Factory, Azure SQL/Synapse, and storage technologies.
• Advanced data modelling skills-dimensional, star schema, or data vault modelling-supporting both operational and analytical use cases.
• Mastery of Power BI including DAX, data flows, workspace management, and governance best practices.
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code, DevOps, and pipeline automation tools.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience leading technical teams and working in Agile, cross-functional environments.
