Carers Victoria is the peak body representing the needs and interests of unpaid carers across Victoria. We’re a for-purpose organisation working to ensure unpaid carers are recognised, supported and connected. We provide advice, respite, education and advocacy.
About the role
We’re looking for a Regional Carer Navigator (RCN) to lead local efforts in the Barwon region, covering Geelong, Colac and Torquay and smaller towns in the catchment. This is an opportunity to build on strong existing foundations, strengthen relationships with local partners, and expand access to respite activities for unpaid carers.
What you’ll be doing
- Design & facilitate inclusive, group-based respite programs that empower carers
- Build partnerships with local councils, community services, and grassroots organisations
- Increase awareness of Carers Victoria and referral pathways across the region
- Act as a key connector between local carers and broader support systems
- Regularly evaluate and adapt group activities to meet community needs.
Skills & experience
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
- Experience in designing and facilitating group-based programs focused on wellbeing & inclusion
- A strong understanding (or capacity to rapidly learn) of issues affecting unpaid carers
- Proven ability to build relationships across sectors – community, health and local government
- Confidence working independently while contributing positively to a wider team
- Sound organisational skills, including using CRM tools, and MS Office for planning and reporting
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in social work, community development, counselling, or a related discipline, or significant experience in a comparable community-facing role
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for regional travel
- Willingness to provide a current Working with Children Check and undertake a police check prior to commencement
Key attributes
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Person-centred, inclusive, and respectful of diverse experiences & identities
- Self-motivated and proactive, with strong judgement and initiative
- A skilled communicator who can build trust with carers and professionals alike
- Passionate about creating more connected, caring communities
- Committed to child safety and culturally safe practice
The offer
- Join a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving outcomes for unpaid carers
- Work in a values-driven, forward-thinking organisation
- 0.6 FTE role (3 days per week)
- $92,400 gross pro rata + super (not for profit salary packaging available)
- Hybrid working arrangement: a mix of working from home, potentially from place-based services in the region, regional travel within the catchment (with reimbursed costs), and monthly travel to the Melbourne office for team days. Regional travel within catchment may also require overnight stays.
