About Yoorana Gunya
Yoorana Gunya Family Healing Centre Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) based in Forbes, NSW. YG provides holistic, culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services, mental health support, social support services and allied health to Aboriginal and non-Indigenous people. YG provides a range of programs to enhance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s overall wellbeing including health related programs, programs to strength community connection, mental health awareness and more.
The YG clinic is supported by General Practitioners, Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Community Support Team including Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Family Violence, Integrated Team Care and various visiting allied health services including Optometrist, Audiologist, Cardiologist, Podiatrist, Dietitian, Gastroenterologist. YG has visiting Counsellor, Mental Health Nurse, Psychologist and refers to Psychiatry.
About the role
As an on-site Psychologist, you will be responsible for providing psychology services to Yoorana Gunya patients. This is an exciting and rewarding role for the right person wanting to make a difference to the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Main responsibilities will include providing psychological assessments and consults to ATSI patients, working closely with the YG clinical team and Community Support Team for the best outcomes for patients overall social and emotional wellbeing.
Clinical supervision will be provided to support your development and meet the requirements for full registration. Supervision will be provided by an experienced Clinical Psychologist and tailored to your individual needs and registration pathway.
Qualifications and Experience
Eligibility for Provisional Registration with AHPRA
Willingness to engage in psychometric assessments
Passion for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Isander clients
Understanding of trauma informed care and complex issues
Excellent interpersonal, written, and report-writing skills
Strong communication and empathetic skills
Ability to work collaboratively within a team
Preferred confirmation of Aboriginality however not essential
Desirable
Communicate warmly and engage with clients to build rapport
Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team for best client outcomes
Genuine interest in a rewarding career to benefit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients of Yoorana Gunya
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Provide psychological assessments to patients.
Provide culturally appropriate psychological services and therapeutic care to patients.
Supporting patients in their overall wellbeing journey including ensuring mental health care plans are up to date and required reviews are completed with General Practitioners.
Complete patient reports and other requirements.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive records and case notes in accordance with policies, procedures and best practice standards.
Liaise and work closely with the Yoorana Gunya clinic team and community support team for patient outcomes.
Provide advice and support to other professionals and staff members regarding effective ways to address mental health and social emotional wellbeing needs for patients.
