We work across Aboriginal cultural heritage, historical archaeology, underwater heritage, ESG, and land access, with a deep commitment to empowering First Nations voices, protecting Country, and changing the narrative around development and cultural knowledge.
Our in-house legal team provides integrated legal support across mining and infrastructure negotiations, future acts, land access agreements, native title, environmental law, governance support, and policy advice. We are growing fast, and we're looking for a lawyer who is passionate, sharp, and ready to work at the intersection of culture, law, and environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal advice on native title, Aboriginal cultural heritage law, and environmental law matters.
Draft, review, and negotiate agreements including:
Land Access Agreements
Heritage Protection Agreements
Mining Agreements
ILUA implementation documents
Represent First Nations clients in high-level negotiations with government and corporate proponents.
Work collaboratively with in-house anthropologists, archaeologists, and environmental scientists.
Draft advice, briefing papers, and board resolutions for Aboriginal corporations and PBCs.
Ensure legal compliance with the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2021, Native Title Act 1993, and relevant State/Territory legislation.
Assist with ORIC governance and CATSI Act compliance where required.
Attend and support community consultations, field surveys, and board meetings.
You’ll Succeed in This Role If You Have:
Admission to practice as a legal practitioner in Australia and a current practicing certificate.
Demonstrated experience in one or more of: native title law, Aboriginal cultural heritage law, land access and mining negotiations, or environmental law.
Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
A deep respect for First Nations rights, governance structures, and cultural protocols.
The ability to travel regionally and work flexibly in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
A calm, strategic, and solutions-focused mindset, even under pressure.
Desirable (But Not Essential)
Experience working with PBCs or Aboriginal organisations.
Understanding of future acts processes and the role of the NNTT.
Experience in ESG, FPIC, or sustainability frameworks.
Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams or integrated advice.
