About the role

As a Team Leader Development Engineer, within our Planning, Building and Health department, you will manage and guide two direct reports by provide technical advice on major planning projects, oversee compliance with Council standards, as well as collaborating with developers and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality infrastructure outcomes.

The position combines leadership, mentoring, and problem-solving, making it ideal for someone with strong engineering expertise and a passion for guiding a team to success.

What your day will look like

Ensuring the timely and accurate processing of engineering development approvals in line with Council policies

Providing expert technical advice to support the design and delivery of roads, drainage, and path networks

Overseeing engineering plans, ensuring they meet planning conditions and Council standards

Working closely with developers, consultants, and authorities to achieve the best infrastructure solutions

Mentoring the engineering team to enhance performance, skill development, and innovation

What you will bring

Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering with several years of subsequent relevant experience

Professional Engineers Registration in compliance with the Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019

Proven ability to provide leadership, supervision and coaching of staff in a multi-disciplined team

Demonstrated experience in providing expert advice related to the planning, design and provision of civil infrastructure for land subdivisions and/or developments

Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including negotiation and problem-solving skills

Demonstrated project management and report writing skills, with the ability to manage work within prescribed deadlines

Demonstrated experience in supervising and providing technical advice to staff, consultants and contractors

Demonstrated experience in the Town Planning and/or Subdivision process including experience in designing or checking complex engineering plans

If you progress past the interview stage, you may be required to complete pre-employment screening, which may include police checks, a medical, qualification verification, and an Australian work rights check.
